Sanral to deal with irregular spending

JOHANNESBURG – Sanral says it’s taking steps to deal with its irregular expenditure.

Its management was grilled on Tuesday by Parliament’s public accounts committee over irregular expenditure of more than R1-billion.

Most costs are attributed to the agency’s routine and road maintenance contracts.

MPs also raised concerns about costs incurred by outsourcing auditors.

Meanwhile, Sanral says it can still recover R11-billion worth of outstanding e-toll bills.

But the agency says it won’t write off any debt until the collection process has been exhausted.
