Leaking Krugersdorp tap blocked instead of fixed, says Bloom
KRUGERSDORP — Deputy Water and Sanitation Minister Dr Jack Bloom says a leaking tap he reported at the Krugersdorp taxi rank three months ago has been blocked rather than repaired, raising questions about maintenance and access to water at the facility.
In a social media post shared on Wednesday, Bloom said the tap had been leaking since September 2025. His office supplied the post to TownPress following his return to the taxi rank, where he also spoke to a man identified as Richard about other reported leaks.
Three months ago, DeputyJack reported a tap at the Krugersdorp Tax Rank that was LEAKING SINCE SEPTEMBER LAST YEAR. They couldn’t fix it so they just blocked it! I spoke to Richard who complains about other leaks at the taxi rank. It all adds up, why is it so difficult to fix even a small leak?

Bloom previously highlighted the same tap in July, saying a plumber could repair it. A subsequent post said it remained unfixed and offered to cover R100 for parts. Those posts establish that he publicly raised the problem three months before his latest visit.
“They couldn’t fix it so they just blocked it,” Bloom wrote in Wednesday’s update. His office argued that small leaks deserve attention because their cumulative effect can waste substantial amounts of water.
The account leaves important practical questions unanswered, including what work was carried out, whether the closure was temporary and whether another functioning tap remains available to taxi rank users. Blocking an outlet may stop water escaping, but does not necessarily restore the service it previously provided.
Bloom’s office also said a household leaking tap could waste the equivalent of four geysers of water a month and add R600 to a bill. However, it supplied no assumed geyser capacity, leak rate or tariff calculation. That estimate cannot be treated as the measured loss or cost at the taxi rank.
No municipal explanation was included in the supplied material, and no response addressing this incident was located in the reporting reviewed. The municipality’s account is needed to establish why the tap was blocked, whether further repairs are planned and how it is addressing the other leaks reported at the facility.
