Beyond the tributes: Donations build a future for Tsontso’s child
KEMPTON PARK — A fundraising campaign for murdered runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo’s eight year old daughter has more than doubled its original R50,000 target, with donations intended to support the child’s education.
The BackaBuddy appeal had raised R108,541 by Wednesday, according to IOL. Organisers want to establish an education fund covering school and university fees, learning needs and related expenses, turning community support into longer term assistance.
Moselakgomo, 38, disappeared after leaving home for a run last week. Her daughter alerted relatives when she failed to return, and her family identified her body at the Germiston mortuary on Monday.
The appeal invites friends, fellow runners and other supporters to contribute towards her daughter’s future. Discovery Vitality chief executive Dinesh Govender also expressed condolences and said the company would make a contribution.
Moselakgomo is among eight women whose deaths are being investigated in Ekurhuleni. Police are examining whether the cases are connected.
The fundraising milestone reflects support already pledged, rather than confirmation that education expenses have been paid. The campaign’s stated purpose is to provide assistance through the child’s years of learning.
