An 18 year old Grade 10 learner narrowly escaped an attempted armed robbery in the Verulam central business district in KwaZulu Natal on Wednesday.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa, the teenager was walking along Todd Street when he was approached by four suspects dressed in school uniforms. One of the suspects allegedly produced a firearm and demanded the victim’s cellphone.
The learner refused to comply and fled the scene, managing to evade the group. The suspects then ran away along Wick Street in the CBD.
A passerby assisted the teenager following the incident, and reaction officers were called to the scene. Authorities interviewed the victim and launched a search in the surrounding area.
Despite efforts to locate the suspects, no arrests have been made. Fortunately, the teenager was not injured during the incident.
