KwaZulu Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is expected to appear again before Parliament’s ad hoc committee on Friday as hearings into alleged corruption within the criminal justice system approach their conclusion.
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola will also return to the committee during the final stages of the inquiry.
Evidence leader Norman Arendse briefed Members of Parliament during a housekeeping meeting on Monday, outlining the schedule for the remaining witnesses.
According to Arendse, Mkhwanazi’s appearance on Friday is expected to last the full day. His evidence will be led for several hours before committee members are given an opportunity to question him.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Hilda Senthumule is scheduled to testify on Tuesday after delays to her earlier appearance. Senthumule has been implicated by suspended Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya during the committee’s proceedings.
The parliamentary inquiry is examining allegations of corruption and misconduct within South Africa’s criminal justice system, following claims that triggered a wider crisis within the police leadership.
