Soweto Derby fever is building, and former Kaizer Chiefs striker Katlego Mphela is playing a key role in intensifying the excitement. The 41-year-old football legend has announced a new partnership with grooming brand Bump Patrol, with plans to host an exclusive derby watch party in Gauteng this weekend.

Fans Get a Chance to Join the Action

As part of the collaboration, supporters are invited to predict the scoreline of the upcoming derby in the comments section of Mphela’s Instagram post and follow Bump Patrol’s Instagram page. Those selected will receive a direct message inviting them to a private viewing, offering a rare chance to experience one of South Africa’s most iconic club fixtures alongside a football legend. The exact venue is yet to be revealed, but Mphela himself will be hosting, adding extra star power to the event.

From Pitch to Off-Pitch Influence

Although his time at Kaizer Chiefs was brief, producing 17 appearances and six goal contributions, Mphela remains a prominent figure in South African football. His prolific spells at Mamelodi Sundowns and performances for Bafana Bafana at international competitions cemented his reputation. Beyond his playing career, Mphela continues to expand his influence in the commercial space, serving as a brand ambassador for Betway and partnering with companies such as Clicks and Debonaires.

Bump Patrol Collaboration Highlights Lifestyle Branding

The partnership with Bump Patrol reflects Mphela’s growing presence in lifestyle and personal care. The brand focuses on aftershave treatments designed to prevent and treat razor bumps and irritation, providing a natural fit for a campaign centred around fan engagement and exclusive experiences. By combining football nostalgia with lifestyle branding, Mphela is creating a unique intersection of sport and culture for his followers.

Derby Weekend Set to Shine

As the Soweto Derby approaches, Mphela’s initiative brings fans closer to the action than ever before. By combining his legacy on the pitch with innovative off-pitch experiences, he demonstrates that his influence extends well beyond his playing days. Fans can expect an exciting weekend of football, engagement, and celebration, all amplified by one of South Africa’s most recognisable football figures.
