Orlando Pirates’ Betway Premiership match against Golden Arrows has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Mpumalanga Stadium.
Heavy rains left the pitch waterlogged, forcing the match officials to call off the game just hours before kickoff.
This marks the second time this season that Pirates have been unable to play a scheduled fixture due to adverse weather conditions.
“Tonight’s fixture vs @goldenarrowsfc1 has been officially abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch at Mpumalanga Stadium. The match will be rescheduled, with a new date to be determined by the league,” the Soweto giants confirmed in a statement.

The postponement adds further strain to Pirates’ campaign, as they have now played three games fewer than defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
With Sundowns in action against Marumo Gallants, the Buccaneers risk falling even further behind in the title race. A win for Sundowns would see them extend their lead to 12 points.
It remains unclear when the match will be rescheduled, as the PSL has yet to provide an official update.
This uncertainty only adds to Pirates’ growing fixture backlog, as they had already been dealing with two games in hand.
This is not the first time Pirates have faced a last-minute postponement. Earlier this season, their clash against Royal AM was called off after their opponents were suspended indefinitely due to financial issues.
Additionally, in August last year, their MTN8 semi-final first leg against Cape Town City was abandoned due to extreme weather in the Western Cape, forcing it to be played the following day.
Head coach Jose Riveiro will now hope that the PSL finds a suitable date for the Golden Arrows fixture, allowing his team to clear their backlog and maintain their chase for the league title.
