The president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordaan, is set to return to court on Friday facing charges of theft and fraud.
Jordaan is accused of misappropriating R1.3 million of SAFA funds for personal use.
The case, previously postponed, returns to court after Jordaan and his co-accused failed in their attempt to have the charges dropped. During the last hearing, the court reviewed two applications from both the State and the defence.
The State sought to have Advocate Norman Arendse, who represents both Jordaan and SAFA, recuse himself due to a potential conflict of interest, as his dual role was argued to create a conflict.
In response, Jordaan filed an application to have the case removed from the roll, citing what he considered unreasonable delays.
However, this was strongly opposed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The magistrate ultimately dismissed both applications.
It is expected that the defence will consult with the accused on Friday.
