Pienaar, Mpumalanga – A specialized team of investigators has been formed to probe the killing of eight people at a liquor outlet.
The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday morning, claiming six lives at the scene, while two other victims—a man and a woman—succumbed to their injuries later in the hospital.
“Three additional victims, including two males and one female, are still receiving medical care for injuries sustained during the shooting,” confirmed the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga.
The motive for the attack remains unclear. Two VW Polos with bullet holes were discovered at the scene, with one of the victims found deceased inside one of the vehicles.
“A team of expert investigators has been assembled to handle this case, and a 72-hour activation plan has been implemented to expedite the investigation. While no arrests have been made yet, the police are actively pursuing the suspects,” SAPS reported.
The SAPS has urged anyone with information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators to contact the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or submit tips via the MySAPS App. All information will be handled confidentially, and callers may remain anonymous.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned the incident.
“We are deeply concerned about the recent spike in shooting incidents across the province. Rest assured, we are working tirelessly to ensure those responsible are swiftly brought to justice,” he said.
