The City of Tshwane has advised Hammanskraal residents to avoid drinking tap water until it has been declared safe.
For years, the community has struggled to access clean water, a situation exacerbated by a cholera outbreak in June last year that claimed 40 lives.
In response, the city is implementing a four-phase plan to address the ongoing water crisis, with the first phase nearing completion.
Officials anticipate providing clean drinking water to all areas of Hammanskraal by mid-2025.
During the initial phase, the following areas will be prioritised: Mandela Village, Marokolong Ramotshe, Kekana Gardens, Steve Bikoville, Kudube Unit 9, Babelegi Industrial Park, and Bridgeview Informal Settlement.
“City of Tshwane, in partnership with the Department of Water and Sanitation and the Gauteng Province, is pleased to announce significant progress in the project to provide clean potable water to the Hammanskraal community,” said Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya.
“Our teams are currently conducting final tests and will announce when the water is safe for consumption.”
