Secretary-General of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP), Floyd Shivambu, has announced comprehensive transportation plans for the party’s first anniversary celebrations, scheduled for Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Addressing a media briefing at the stadium on Wednesday, Shivambu shared logistical details and outlined preparations for the milestone event.
According to Shivambu, transportation has been arranged for party members across all 11 regions and 44 municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Buses, taxis, and trains will provide free transport along key routes within the province. However, members from other provinces will need to arrange their own transport due to logistical limitations.
“We have secured transportation for all 11 regions of KwaZulu-Natal and 44 municipalities. We are not able to provide transport for members from other provinces, as the capacity of the stadium and our logistical preparations are not sufficient to accommodate the entire country,” Shivambu said.
He added that arrangements with Prasa will ensure free train services from key locations, including KwaMashu, Cato Ridge, and uMlazi, to assist attendees within the province.
Shivambu assured the public that thorough preparations have been made to ensure a safe and well-organised event.
Strict safety measures will be in place, prohibiting firearms, dangerous weapons, and unapproved drones.
Only approved traditional regalia will be permitted, and the event will remain alcohol-free.
The anniversary celebrations will kick off at Moses Mabhida Stadium, with gates opening at 7 am.
The program will begin with entertainment and an interfaith prayer session, leading up to the official proceedings at 12 pm.
The festivities are said to continue with a gala dinner at the Olive Convention Centre on Monday, December 16.
Expressing gratitude to the 12 Apostles Church in Christ for their recent support, Shivambu reiterated MKP’s commitment to unity and progress.
He also revealed plans for 2025, which include the establishment of voting district offices and regional structures nationwide, as well as the launch of a policy conference to address electoral fraud.
“Umkhonto Wesizwe is a disciplined liberation movement fighting for total emancipation and freedom,” Shivambu stated.
“Our first anniversary celebrations will demonstrate our commitment to uniting progressive forces and amplifying the voices of the oppressed.”
