KWAZULU-NATAL: A 21-year-old suspect is in custody following his arrest by Hawks members from the Durban Serious Organised Crime unit working together with Metro Police Drug Team, Crime Intelligence, and Public Order Police in Phoenix yesterday.
Police received information about a suspect who was involved in drug dealing activities in the Phoenix area. A joint operation was conducted and police swooped in on the said residence. A search was conducted and police found heroin capsules, mandrax tablets, pieces of crack cocaine, and smoking pipes to the street value of R22 000,00.
A 9mm pistol with two magazines and live rounds of ammunition was also seized during the operation. He was then placed under arrested and charged for dealing in drugs as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The seized firearm will be sent for ballistic test to ascertain if it was used in the commission of any crime in the country. He is expected to appear in the Phoenix Magistrates’ Court today
