Cristiano Ronaldo was rumored to be the new owner of the one-off Bugatti La Voiture Noire – reportedly the most expensive car ever built.
Reports suggest Ronaldo has spent ZAR130million (£9.49million) on the unique Bugatti which was first presented to the world at the Geneva Motor Show 2019.
The French luxury company built only one of the prototype supercar and it is a tribute to the 110th anniversary of the founding of the company.
During the Geneva Motor Show, Bugatti exec Stephan Winkelmann had announced the car had already been claimed by a wealthy buyer, but he didn’t reveal the buyer’s identity.
“There will never be another,” Winkelmann said … “I am pleased to tell you that it has sold for 16.7 million euro.”
The price was reportedly determined in a secret auction — where only Bugatti’s top clients were allowed to participate.
The actual model displayed at the Geneva Motor Show is not functional and would only be built once a top bidder emerges and Bugatti allegedly need two more years to build the actual, drivable version
Several reports suggested Ronaldo placed the top bid but a spokesperson for the soccer superstar has confirmed, “The story isn’t true. Ronaldo has not bought it.”
