PRETORIA – The University of Pretoria advanced to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup after hammering Second Division campaigners Polokwane City Rovers 5-0 at the Tuks Stadium on Saturday night.
While the Second Division side had high hopes of giving AmaTuks a run for their money, it wasn’t to be as they were blown away by the Premiership club.

It was one-way traffic right from the start as Tuks ran rampant against the lower division side.
After 10 minutes, it was 1-0 when Thabo Mosadi created the opening and provided the assist for Ethiopian striker Getaneh Kebede to give the University team the lead.
On the half hour mark, it was 2-0 when Atusaye Nyondo was through on goal and intelligently lobbed the ball over the advancing Rovers goalkeeper. A minute later, Nyondo should have got his second, but drilled his effort wide.
But the miss didn’t really matter as, in the 38th minute, Tuks scored their third goal. Sibusiso Mthethwa rattled the crossbar with a good shot, the ball bounced back off the woodwork and deflected off the keeper and into the net.
There was no change in the second half as Tuks continued to treat the occasion as a training exercise. Vuyisile Ntombayithethi then made the score 4-0 when he hit a screamer that rocketed into the back of the net.
Tuks continued to create opportunities and Lennox Bacela came close with a free-kick, but the ball flew narrowly over the cross bar. There was even time for a fifth goal when a great turn and shot from Thabo Nemukondeni flew into the net.
All in all, though, it was an easy victory for coach Shaun Bartlett’s University side.
