JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress (ANC) will today lead a march for unity, non-racialism and democracy through the streets of Pretoria to the Union Buildings.
The ruling party will also deliver a memorandum aimed at mobilising South Africans to stand together against all forms of discrimination.
The party says it’s been disturbed by recent incidents of racism that have gripped the country, which they say have at times been disguised as freedom of speech.
ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe says today’s march is not a protest, but rather a mobilisation of society on issues that directly affect them.
“The ANC seeks to mobilise all South Africans, black and white, to contribute to the ongoing transformation of our country.”
Mantashe says the anti-apartheid movement’s main struggle was against racism, but the problem is still far from being solved.
“There is a call to action for all South Africans to fight for unity, non-racialism and democracy.”
The ANC has called on South Africans from all walks of life to unite and confront ongoing systematic racism.
The party has urged South Africans to work together to eradicate all forms of discrimination.
