Sandton fire claims one life
Johannesburg emergency services say a man died and a woman was seriously injured in a house fire in Sandton’s upscale Morningside suburb yesterday. Netcare911 spokesperson Tebogo Magoro says neither the man nor the woman were able to escape the flames and had to be retrieved by the fire department.
“Fire and smoke was coming out of the house when netcare 911 and the fire department arrived. The fire department attended to a male and female who were trapped inside the house. They assisted in getting the female out of the house. She suffered smoke inhalation and was stabilised before being transported to hospital for further medical care. Sadly the mad succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene. The exact circumstances that lead to the fire are unclear but local authorities were on scene to investigate.
