JOHANNESBURG – Tributes continue to pour in for the late Anthony “Tsekeleke” Motaung.
The kwaito musician died on Tuesday night after a lengthy battle with diabetes
Motaung is known for his 1990s hit “Fatty Boom Boom.”
The star was diagnosed with diabetes several years ago and his family said his condition had deteriorated in his last days, resulting in several amputations.
“They found out that his sugar levels had risen and they had to amputate above the knee so that was the main reason that led him to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) on Friday. Yesterday (Tuesday) we came back and they said his condition was critical. So they took us out the ward after that they told us that he is gone,” said Tsekeleke’s brother Brian Motaung.
Industry friends and colleagues said he will be remembered for his unique dance moves.
“He was skilful especially on his dance moves and also on his lyrical content. He would just do his one liner two liners but once he starts doing those dance moves everyone would just be amazed, so he had his own way of dancing and that’s how I remember him,” said musician Oscar Mdlongwa.
“Very hard man, strong; he would run from a rat but if you tell him here’s a train coming he would stop. He was very strong. If he wanted something he’ll make sure he gets that thing,” said his friend Mongameli Mjamba.
Motaung is survived by his son, three brothers and sister.
His family is yet to announce funeral details.
