Reports on social media indicate Sizani will take up a role as ambassador to Germany, which is being vacated by Makhenkesi Stofile.
The Chief Whip of the majority party has recently been at the forefront of the ANC’s efforts to defend President Jacob Zuma during confidence motions in Parliament sparked by Zuma’s admission in the Constitutional Court that he would repay some of the money spent by government on his home at Nkandla.
Sizani has been the ruling party’s chief whip since 2013.
The party announced this afternoon that deputy chief whip Doris Dlakude will temporarily take over his responsibilities.

“Because of the urgency with which he is required in the new deployment, Cde Sizani has thus resigned from Parliament with immediate effect,” the ANC said.
The ANC’s National Executive Committee will decide on a replacement at its regular sitting in a few weeks’ time.
