Ramaphosa said while South Africa remains at lockdown Level 3, additional sectors of the economy will now be allowed to reopen – as long as strict measures are in place to ensure physical distancing and personal hygiene.
The industries affected would include the personal care services – which included hairdressers, conference centres holding business-related gatherings, cinemas, theatres, and casinos, and non-contact sports will be allowed to resume their activities.
The sectors would be allowed to operate under strict measures to ensure physical distancing and personal hygiene, Ramaphosa said.
He said these industries employed well over 500,000 people and the government had to think about these people and their livelihoods while saving lives.
The president said more clarity on the lifting of the restrictions will be communicated in the coming days.
