South African songbird, Sho Madjozi, arrives home from Los Angeles on Monday where she scooped the Best New International Act at the BET Awards last week.
Madjozi, whose birth name is Maya Wagerif, rose to fame with her hit song Huku, which is sung in Swahili mixed with her home language of XiTsonga.
Earlier this year, she also won the Female Artist of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards at the South African Music Awards (SAMA).
Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts, and Culture, Thandi Moraka is at the OR Tambo International Airport in Gauteng to welcome her back.
“We are really honoured to see this young girl who is making us proud in the international space, who recently won the BET award. This should send a message to our emerging artists to say that if Sho Madjozi can make it, they as well can also make it because Sho Madjozi is proud of her own culture. She is singing her music using her own mother tongue and she is also not ashamed of rocking her own traditional regalia,” says Moraka
