KwaZuluNatal – Ithala launched its first ATM in Paulpietersburg on Tuesday, the 28th of May to respond to the needs of Paulpietersburg community as they had to travel 47 kilometres to Vryheid to access banking services. The launch came after a request made by the community to the former EDTEA MEC Mr Sihle Zikalala at the operation Vula / Rasset programme that took place in Paulpietersburg.
Apart from improving customer convenience, Ithala SOC forges ahead with its mandate to serve ordinary people and bringing basic financial services closer to the communities it serves.
The mayor of eDumbe Municipality, his worship Mr SJ Kunene said; “we thank financial institutions like Ithala SOC Limited for ensuring that people from disadvantaged backgrounds are well taken care of and are provided access to banking services. People of Paulpietersburg no longer have to travel as far as Vryheid or Nquthu to transact.” He said. “This is just a start of a good relationship that is critical to bringing development to the local people’’, concludes the mayor.
Shane Moodley, Head of Retail and Business Banking at Ithala SOC Limited, said: “as a financial institution that cares for the needs of our fellow South Africans, we have a responsibility and a role to bring financial services closer to our customers no matter what their financial background may be or their geographical location.”
Precious Buthelezi, a local resident and also centre caretaker, said: Paulpietersburg is a small neglected town, to see development coming from a local financial institution gives us joy.
