The Department of Correctional Services has condemned the stabbing of three officials at the St Albans correctional facilities in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.
Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says the officials are being treated in hospital.
“As a department, we have learned with shock that the three of our officials have allegedly been stabbed this morning at about 11:30. This took place when our officials were dealing with lockups, following an exercise the offenders must take on a daily basis. We are investigating this matter.
So that we can identify all those who were involved but what we can confirm is that the three officials are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition. As the department, we will make sure that they receive the best care as possible and we wish them a speedy recovery,” explains Nxumalo.
