The Nelson Mandela Foundation has joined the world in sending deepest condolences to the family of former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
Annan visited South Africa last month as part of Nelson Mandela’s Centenary celebrations.
Director of Archive and Dialogue at the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Verne Harris highlighted some of the areas Annan and Nelson Mandela worked together.
According to Harris, Mandela became friends with Annan through his wife, Graca Machel.
The two started working together and had some projects even after Mandela stepped down as president of South Africa.
One of their important collaborations was around the Burundi peace process, as they were both committed to finding a sustainable solution. Mandela leads the process and Annan oversaw it.
