The Department of Higher Education and Training says investigations into the non-payment of NSFAS allowances to students across the country are underway.
Students at the University of Venda in Thohoyandou are boycotting lectures over the non-payment of their NSFAS allowances.
Department’s spokesperson Lunga Ngqengelele says some students at Univen have been paid.
“Across the country, there are students who are not yet received their allowances, this is the part of the reason that the minister decided to put NSFAS under administration so that we can get into the bottom of this issues. It is part of the on-going investigation. A huge number of students at Univen have gotten their allowances. it is also to make sure that we strengthen the system of NSFAS.”
