Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini has called on the people of KwaZulu-Natal to come together and pray in unity against the scourge of crime in the province.
The monarch is being joined by leaders from different religious groups for a prayer meeting in uLundi in the north of the province.
Earlier this month provincial Premier Willies Mchunu declared the months of June and July as prayer months. This was due to the increase in crimes such as political killings, attacks on members of the public, hijackings and damage to public property.
Spokesperson for the Zulu Royal House, Prince Thulani Zulu says the king has been disturbed by what he has been seeing.
“We all know what is happening around the province. There is political instability, there’s crime, people are being robbed, and everything is upside down. As the leader of the people he has arrived at a resolution to call every religious leader to come and pray for God to have mercy on us,” says Zulu.
