The African National Congress has announced Job Mokgoro as the Premier-elect for the North West province.
The position has been vacant for almost a month following Supra Mahumapelo’s resignation. The 70-year-old Mokgoro will be sworn in as premier in the Provincial legislature on Friday.
The Province was engulfed in violent protest action by residents calling for Mahumaphelo to step down.
ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule says Mokgoro is more than qualified for the position.
“Special NWC unanimously resolved on the nomination of Comrade Professor Job Makgoro as Premier elect for the North West province. Professor Makgoro is a tried and tested activist and administrator, fit enough to deal with the challenges at hand – including creating stability within the provincial administration, and effecting the much needed delivery of basic services. It will be good for the alliance in the ANC, everybody, to and society to support him.”
