JOHANNESBURG – The uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) on Monday denounced demands to recall President Jacob Zuma.
It is expected Zuma’s future will be discussed when the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meets on Wednesday.
The MKMVA said it is possible for Zuma to lead the country without leading the ANC.
The association also called claims that Zuma is the sole reason for the party’s decline disingenuous.
During a media briefing, MKMVA president Kebby Maphatsoe said, “Delegates at the (elective) conference explicitly instructed leadership to work tirelessly for unity… We, therefore, call for unnecessary divisive pressure with regards to the future of President Jacob Zuma as president of the Republic of South Africa to be avoided.”
“The NEC must be given an opportunity to deal with this matter… and in doing so there should be no place for personal vendettas and vindictiveness.”
