JOHANNESBURG – Riddled Eskom has a new board approved by Cabinet.

The names were discussed in Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, with Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown’s spokesperson Colin Cruywagen confirming that the announcement would be made “by end of business” on Friday.

The board comprises current interim chairperson Zethembe Khoza and interim members Pat Naidoo, Giovanni Leonardi, Pulane Molokwane, Simphiwe Dingaan, Banothile Makhubela, Sathiaseelan Gounden, plus two new members, Malegapuru Makgoba and Tshepo Mongalo.

The new board was set to be announced on December 6.
The embattled power utility, is still at the centre of a state capture inquiry by a parliamentary committee and has come under intense public scrutiny over executives and board members allegedly favouring the Gupta family when allocating out multi-million rand state contracts.
Gigaba, during his mid-term budget statement, said that “Eskom is simply too important to the country to fail, and we will not allow it to,” Gigaba said at the time.
