The four athletes who contributed to South Africa’s medal haul at this year’s IAAF World Championships will receive a total of R710 000 in incentives, Athletics SA has confirmed.
In a notice to members on Tuesday, the federation revealed that sprinter Wayde van Niekerk would get R250 000 for securing 400m gold and 200m silver, while middle-distance runner Caster Semenya was set to pocket R230 000 for taking home 800m gold and 1 500m bronze.
Long jump gold and bronze medallists Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai would receive R150 000 and R80 000 respectively.

“Incentives for senior and junior athletes, and their coaches, whom set new South African records during 2017 will receive their incentives early January 2018,” the federation added.
A total of nine athletes set national senior outdoor track and field records this season, including Van Niekerk (200m), Manyonga (long jump) and Semenya (800m).
