Benoni – The family of a teenager who was brutally raped and murdered a week ago demands justice.
Thandi Ngwane (18) was visiting her grandmother in Etwatwa last weekend, when she received a call from a friend, inviting her to a girls night out.
The following day, her half naked body was found dumped. She had been stoned to death.
The teenager’s grandmother, Elizabeth Ngwane, was one of the first people who rushed to the scene.
“Her body was lying here. Her pants were on the roof of this shack. All I want is for the people who did this to be arrested,” she said.
Ngwane’s family said knowing that her killer is out there is making it even harder for the family to mourn her passing.
“‘The community knows who did this and the person who has done this is living comfortably at home while my child lies is in a cold grave,” said her father, Thomas Malobolo.
“I also want my daughter’s friend to tell the police where the person or people who did this are because I don’t feel right about this.”
He accused police of dragging their feet.
“The first time we went to the police station to see the investigating officer, he told us that he doesn’t have time to investigate because he had to go to court. We were disappointed,” Malobolo said.
Malobolo said all he wants is justice for his daughter.
Police denied they neglected the family.
“There was one girl who was with the young woman before she died, who has been questioned by the police and she gave the statement and we believe if people know they must give us information so that we can make the arrests,” said Gauteng police spokesperson, Kay Makhubele.
A case of murder is being investigated.
