AngloGold Ashanti slips into H1 loss on job cuts, court case

JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s AngloGold Ashanti posted a first-half loss on Monday on costs related to layoffs and money set aside for litigation, but the gold miner stuck to its full-year targets.

Headline loss per ordinary share totalled 22 U.S. cents in the six months to June, compared with earnings of 23 U.S. cents in the same period last year, the company said in a statement.

AngloGold set aside $47 million for job cuts as part of a restructuring of its South African assets and made a provision of $46 million for the possible settlement of a lung disease court case brought by former employees.
