Last night and today, the ILembe cluster Task team conducted an operation at Mgetane area, Nsuze and Sundumbili searching for the unlicensed firearms which were in the hands of the criminals. The team went to Nsuze area where they went to the identified homestead where a 46-year-old man was found in possession of a shotgun, 9mm pistol and three live rounds of ammunition. Another suspect aged 32 who was found in possession of a 0, 5 grams of dagga was also placed under arrest.
The members proceeded to Dendethu reserve, Sundumbili area where a 68-year-old man was found in possession of an AK 47 with a total of 117 assortment live rounds of ammunitions. The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. The arrested suspects are appearing today in the Nsuze and Nyoni Magistrates’ Court.
“The elimination of unlicensed firearms will prevent the serious and violent crimes from being committed and also prevent the loss of life. We will continue with our operations to ensure the safety of our citizens in our province,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
