JOHANNESBURG – Apple is to launch its new iPhone 7 at its Wednesday 7 September event. And just before the launch Samsung gave Apple a much-needed gift. The iPhone 7 is expected to be well…boring. The new iPhone is not expected to be as exciting as previous launches.
The big news is expected in next year’s iPhone launch, where Apple will be celebrating ten years of the iPhone. And as one would expect the ten years anniversary phone is going to come with all the fireworks. The big design and hardware changes will come on the ten year anniversary iPhone.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 since its launch a few weeks ago had been receiving rave reviews, and many had already named it the best phone of 2016. The Note 7 was dampening the hype of Apple’s 7 September event. The Note 7 was doing great, until news of the phone exploding whilst charging started to make headlines. The news eventually led to Samsung recalling the device on Friday.
Samsung’s unfortunate disaster could not have happened a better time for Apple. The iPhone 7 might not live up to hype the launches we’ve come to expect for new iPhones but Apple will always have a trump card, a good phone will always be better than a great phone that might explode.
Samsung may replace the faulty Note 7 but their reputation will remain tainted over this whole debacle. The Note 7 has not been launched yet in South Africa, and now many people who were anticipating the launch of the Note 7 locally on 23 September might think twice before buying the Note 7.
Many might choose the iPhone 7 even if it does not have the same capabilities like the Note 7, some people would not want to take a chance buying a phone that might explode on them.
