JOHANNESBURG – Former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils has refuted claims that he gave instructions to the woman, known as Khwezi, who accused Jacob Zuma of rape in 2005.
On Monday, the North Gauteng High Court heard a defamation case against Deputy Defence Minister Kebby Maphatsoe brought by Kasrils.
The former minister of intelligence is suing Maphatsoe for R1-million, including legal costs, for his “false and derogatory statements” that Kasrils was behind the rape charges.
The case has been postponed to Tuesday.
During an adjournment, Kasrils told journalists how he and Zuma met Khwezi when she was seven years old and that he was horrified when she told years later that she had been raped by Zuma.
Zuma, then ANC deputy president, was acquitted of rape in 2006. Khwezi and her mother fled South Africa and were granted asylum in The Netherlands.
