JOHANNESBURG – The Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF’s) Central Command Team (CCTM) called a press conference on Monday evening to announce its coalition partner.
However journalists were told to leave the meeting before the big announcement. Media representatives waited for over an hour but the party did not announce its partner.In a press statement sent out Monday evening the party said it had postponed the press briefing to Wednesday due to Tuesday’s commemoration of the Marikana Massacre.
Neither the ANC nor the DA won an outright majority in the 3 August 2016 Municipal Elections, both parties have since been seeking coalition partners.
Last week, it emerged that ANC leaders defied President Jacob Zuma and initiated coalition talks with the Economic Freedom Fighters.
One of the key requirements of the EFF was that President Jacob Zuma step down before they could form a coalition with the ANC.
The EFF’s Comrade in Chief Julius Malema gave a guideline of his party’s coalition requirements before the election results was officially declared.
The governing party was dealt a blow by the August 3 election after it failed to obtain an outright majority some ANC strongholds and key metros in South Africa.
