JOHANNESBURG – Heavy rains and localised flooding are expected to continue in Gauteng, parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga, according to the South African Weather Service.
While needed to assist the country out of drought, this week’s rain instead left a trail of destruction in its wake.
Emergency services in Gauteng had their hands full as heavy rains damaged houses and caused major traffic disruptions.
In Ekurhuleni, heavy rains left several homes uninhabitable.
Meanwhile, search and rescue operations for a Pretoria man swept away by flash floods, will resume again on Friday morning.
Two cars were also swept away by flash floods at low-lying bridges.
The weather service says cloudy conditions will persist over Gauteng until Sunday, but with reduced rainfall.
