JOHANNESBURG – Internationally acclaimed artist Zwelethu Mthethwa will be back in court on Tuesday, charged with the murder of a sex worker.
In 2013, the South African painter and photographer was accused of kicking and beating Nokuphila Kumalo to death in Woodstock, Cape Town. The attack was allegedly captured on CCTV.
But his advocate William Booth requested a trial-within-a-trial to determine the authenticity of the material.
Mthethwa has pleaded not guilty to murder.
The trial resumes in the Western Cape High Court.
