The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) will on Wednesday begin wage talks with the gold mining sector companies.
NUM is demanding a minimum salary of R 10 500 for employees working underground and R 9 500 for employees working on the surface.
The wage negotiations will be held in Boksburg on Gauteng’s East Rand.
NUM spokesperson Livhuani Mamburu says “NUM has sent its demands to the Minerals Council of South Africa. We are demanding R9 500 for surface workers and R10 500 for the underground workers and 15% for the officials. We are also demanding a living allowance of R3 000 and housing allowance of 5000.”
