Violence against women and children are at the top of the Western Cape SAPS’s priority list and we will do everything possible to bring perpetrators to book. This was shown again by Detectives from the Kuils River FCS unit when they ensured that two offenders were removed from our communities.
A 49-year-old husband from Mfuleni was sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment on 19 July 2017 for raping his sister in law, who was 20 years old at the time. During March 2015 his wife left her younger sister and her husband with their children while she went to church. Upon her return, she was informed that her sister had been raped by her husband. The husband packed his clothes, took all their money and ran away to Eastern Cape. In April 2015 the husband was arrested.
In a separate case, a 24-year-old suspect from Mfuleni was sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment for the rape of a 10-year-old child in his neighborhood during March 2016. The suspect came to the house of the victim under the pretense of using gym equipment, while the victim’s parents were away, and took advantage of the child.
The members from Kuils River FCS are committed and dedicated to ensuring that they protect our women and children by sending the perpetrators of these crimes to prison where they belong. The SAPS also encourages women and children to report such crimes so that our specialized units can deal harshly with their abusers.
